John and Sandy's RV Adventure Journal

Reelfoot St Park – Tiptonville TN – 02Jun18

We took a nice 3 hour lake pontoon cruise put on by Reelfoot state park. On our way to the pier, we was a turtle laying eggs. It’s a perfect morning and calm. During the cruise we saw Great B Herons, Great White Egrets, Osprey on nest, diamond back water snake, and yo-yo’s for fishing. Now we stopped for lunch at the Pit BBQ. While we were reading I heard the ice cream man driving in our park, so I had to get a couple.

We had some mean storms overnight. It’s wet out with a few sprinkles but nice. Temps about 70. We put the awning out and enjoyed coffee while watching the squirells and listening to the birds. Down the road is Stump Jumpers Bar and Grill. We headed over about 6pm for a cocktail. We met Vickie and Capt Mike the owners. Tonight they have a DJ and karaoke. Chicago Sandy brought some harps, and sang and played to Folsom Prison and Mary Jane’s Last Dance. I also sang Living on Key West Time. We had a fun time and recommend it if your in the area.

We were out by 8am to go check out Levee Rd where there are Bald Eagle nests. We didn’t spot any but met Mike and Randie Bohannon. They had their camera set up on a nest with 2 10 week old eaglets. I took some pics but they were nowhere as good as theirs. So I downloaded a couple of theirs. Thanks kids. They gave us the history of this family and were very nice and informative. As we continued on, we did spot a juvenile eagle and got a pic. Now we continued on our journey around Reelfoot Lake. In the wildlife refuge there are 2 auto tour roads. First was the Long Point drive. It has an overlook at the beginning. At the end we stopped to look around. Now on to the Grassy Island tour. We drove to the end and there was a nice boardwalk with an observation tower. On our way back, there was a 1 mile hike with boardwalks and trails through the forest. Throughout our day we saw baby Bald Eagles, raccoon, turkey, turtles, multiple types of birds and, newly hatched baby frogs. Now it’s lunchtime so we stopped at the Boathouse in Samburg for lunch. We had a full day and were home by 2pm. Now a little reading, dinner and a couple cocktails.
