Holbrook AZ

We headed to the Holbrook Golf Course late morning. It’s a pretty course surrounded by rock outcrops. No one really manages it this time of year, so a couple workers told us to just take a cart and go play. So that’s what we did. The course was empty for most of our play but then a few people came. We only played 9 holes because the temperature was in the mid 90’s. Then we headed home had a cookout with cocktails and relaxed.

Today we headed up to the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert National Parks. Even though they have different names, the parks are combined. We started on the North side at the visitors center and watched a movie on the parks.
The drive through the parks is about 30 miles. Along the way there are various overlooks and places to do short hikes. We stopped to see the refurbished Painted Desert Inn. This was also a Harvey House Hotel in the 50’s. Another stop was the old Studebaker where old RT 66 was. Looking at it you wouldn’t have known there was ever a road there. We also stopped to walk along some old pueblo dwellings and see hundreds of petroglyphs.

Holbrook, AZ

This is a short travel day for us. We had coffee and relaxed, then started our pre and day of departure list. We were on the road by 915am. We only traveled 60 miles west to Holbrook AZ and got all set up at the KOA by 11045am. We took a drive to check out a golf course here and then stopped for some much needed groceries. Then we relaxed outside with some cocktails and I practiced harmonic.
