Relaxing afternoon by the pool. Now it’s time to party at the Old Bowie Tavern. They have a Blues Jam and we met Candy and her friend Marc there. Mike and Liz live really close by so they met us there too. This was a really good blues jam. Carl and Charles are the hosts. Chicago Sandy got to jam with Kevin on lead guitar and vocals, Jeff on drums, Cookie on bass, Jeff on rhythm guitar and Carl on keyboards. Mike got up and sang harmony on a couple songs and then had a set of his own. Chicago Sandy joined Micheal on stage for one song. There were lots of artists. It reminded us of Looe Key Tiki Bar.
Our friends Mike and Liz from the keys also live in this area. Today they are having a cookout. Craig and Karin from the keys also live here and came over. Candy met us there. We had to get the music going. Mike on keyboards and vocals, Chicago Sandy on ukulele, harmonica and vocals, Craig on guitar, Karin and Liz on vocals. We had some great cocktails and food with good friends.
We are heading to Washington DC today. Cherry Hill RV Park makes it so easy to visit. We purchased smartrip cards for the bus and train to DC and also a Big Bus hop on/hop off tour tickets. The bus stops right inside our park and takes us to the metro. The metro takes us right to downtown DC. When we exit the metro, we caught the Big Bus right across the street at the Natl Archives Museum. The Big Bus worked great.
Last time we were here we walked and did a lot of the museums but missed other stuff. Today we went past the Pentagon, and got off at Arlington Natl Cemetery. We walked up to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We got to witness the Changing of the Guard. When your here and you see all the graves that go on and on and on, it makes you respect our military men and women so much more. We drove by other monuments and had narration history about all of them. The Jefferson, Lincoln and Marines Memorials. The Washington Monument, White House and Capital Building plus others.
We had a great day but now we need some dinner. So we walked to Chinatown and Chinese Express for dinner. Now we caught our metro home. Great Day!
We headed up to Candy’s house this morning and went to a Mexican swap meet for a Mexican breakfast. Next is the Columbia Festival of the Arts for some afternoon music around the lake. We got our chairs set up in a nice shady spot overlooking the stage with a nice breeze. Sara Ragsdale was on stage. She is a singer, songwriter and pianist. She sang a lot of her own music and some covers. Next up was the Junkyard Saints. Brian Simms were on vocals and keyboard and they had a 7 piece band with drums, bass, guitar, trombone, trumpet and saxophone. We took a couple walks and one around the lake. We met some people sitting behind us and had a couple beers with them. We all had a nice day. Told Candy we’d see her later and headed home.
