We are heading to Mystic CT today to meet up with John cousins daughter Michelle, her husband Justin and their little one Derek. We met them at the Mystic Aquarium. It’s a nice aquarium and Derek who is 10 months old loved looking at the fish and frogs. We are ready for dinner and Justin and Michelle suggested Red 36 right in Mystic at the seaport. We all had the hot butter Lobster rolls. It was great to see Justin and Michelle again and meet little Derek. We will see them somewhere!

We started out to go to a couple wildlife refuges today. We only made it to one, East Beach State Park. Even though it’s a Wednesday, it was still crowded but nothing like the weekend and other places we’ve been by. We took a walk on the bay side of the island and then along the Atlantic beach side. John is ready for a long walk. So I set up my chair on the beach with the crashing waves and mist from the water and did some reading and soaked up some sun. After John walked a few miles on the beach he relaxed in the sun also. Back at home, we listened to music and had a few cocktails until the storm sent us inside.

We are out on the water today. We drove up to Quonset to take the 2 hour lighthouse boat tour. This narrated trip goes by 10 lighthouses in the Narraganset Bay. We also go by Fort Adams and Newport Harbor. The white and wood schooner sells for 53 million dollars. It was a nice day on the water. Now we are heading to Misquamicut RI. We want to see a band on the beach. Well, we never made the band. We stopped at Windjammer Surf Bar where we thought the band was, but wasn’t. While we were overlooking the beach we met a couple, Jessica and Adam. They are from this area and we hung out for a while. We met one guy that looked just like our friend George from the keys. John and I were going to walk down to the band, but way to many people. So we had another cocktail and John became a lifeguard for a while.

Nice morning. We planned our time here and headed out to explore the Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge, Kettle Pond Visitors Center. We did 2 hikes. The Watchaug Pond Trail and the Ocean View Trail. The Ocean View Trail had a 30 foot tower that overlooks the bay and the Atlantic Ocean all the way to Block Island. We hiked about 2 miles. Then we headed to Great Swamp Natl Recreation Area. I was done hiking so I relaxed and John did about 2 more miles investigating the area. Now went towards the ocean. We took a scenic drive down Highway A1A. It’s Sunday afternoon in July and every beach we pass has hundreds of cars and people. It’s getting later and we did find a couple small overlooks that we’re glad we stopped. Very secluded and beautiful scenery. We made it down to Point Judith Lighthouse which was also beautiful scenery. Now we are ready for a couple cocktails and a good dinner. We stopped at TwoTen Oyster Bar overlooking the bay and marina. John had fish and chips and I had the Lobster roll. It was one of the better Lobster Rolls, lots of lobster.
