Paraje NM

Today is another drive day. We explored the East side of El Malpais Natl Monument. We stopped at the Sandstone overlook and then at the Arch. There was a 1 mile hike inland toward the arch we took. This area is just so open and beautiful with the sandstone cliffs and lava rocks all around. We stopped at the Rim trail and John did about 1 mile round trip. I stayed back because the beginning of the hike was a steep climb up uneven rocks.
Now we headed back but stopped at Sky City Casino for a while. We got home and finished our pre-departure day stuff. I walked next door to our casino Dancing Eagle for a while.

Happy B’day John!
We are traveling today but not far. The KOA has pancake breakfast so we walked over and enjoyed some pancakes. We packed up and were still on the road by 815am. We are only heading about 180 miles east to Paraja NM.
We got all set up at the Dancing Eagle Casino and RV Park. After re-grouping, we walked to our casino for some cocktails and gambling. Well, we did a little gambling but found out our casino doesn’t serve alcohol. So after a while we left and drove 7 miles to the Sky City Casino. They have a lounge. We stopped for a cocktail and we were going to take them to the casino floor to gamble.
However we found out in New Mexico you cannot have alcohol on the casino floor. So we enjoyed a couple drinks and then did some gambling. A little video poker and blackjack. We had a really nice steak buffet dinner and then headed back.

This morning we sat outside enjoying coffee along Rt 66 with 66 degrees. Nice morning. Later this morning we headed down the road to Meteor Crater Natl Landmark. The Meteor that hit 50,000 years ago was half the size of a football field but left a hole a mile in circumference and 700 feet deep. We watched a short movie about the meteor and then took a ranger guided ½ mile hike along the rim.
Now we headed about 30 miles to Walnut Canyon Natl Monument. About 900 years ago people built dwellings in the side of the cliffs. We watched a short movie about the area and then took a mile hike. It was only a mile, but we had 240 steps down and then the hike and then 240 steps up. We took our time and it was a little overcast which was nice. The hike took us around a rock formation called the island. Along this path were all different dwellings. As we looked across the canyon cliffs, we saw a lot of dwellings all over.
With our hike done, we headed to Twin Arrows Casino which was on the way back. First we took a break at the bar and I had a couple lemon drop martini’s. We played some video poker, slots and blackjack. Had a couple more cocktails and then headed home.

Since I missed bingo yesterday, I went today. Our place, the Riverside has bingo, but a few people have said they like Tropicana’s better. So we walked over and while I played bingo, John played video poker. I wasn’t going to get a bingo machine but it was only a couple dollars more. I’m glad I did. I didn’t win, but I was close a couple times. It was pretty cool. It knows the game your on, keeps track of all the numbers called, tells you how many you need on each card and if you have bingo, tells you to Yell Bingo! Because everything is automated, 10 games only takes a little over an hour.
After bingo I played a little video poker and then we headed back early. We are on the road again tomorrow and will be up early.
